Detail from Battle of Britain memorial, Victoria Embankment, London
These pictures were all taken between 1961 and 1962, but I cannot now remember the precise dates. They are pictures of the early days of G3OUL, the amateur radio club at the University of Liverpool. G3OUL is now defunct. I seem to remember it died about 1985. It was founded in 1960 and I, along with many of the people in these photos, were founder members. If anyone out there recognises themselves, I'd appreciate your getting in touch via EMail to G3NNW.
Keith Taylor G3NNW operating G3OUL at Fresher's Conference
This (above) is the Fresher's Conference in 1961 with Buddy Holly (me) at the controls. G3OUL had been in existence about 9 months. We got a grant from the Student's Union to buy some kit (not the Eddystone - we borrowed that !) and set up the shack in an upstairs room in a building known as The Old Fever Hospital in Vine Street. The Scout and Guide club had a room downstairs. The wiring was so dodgy you could get tingles off the damp walls.
G3OUL at the RSGB exhibition, London, circa 1962
Here we are down in London for the 1962 RSGB exhibition held in the Horticultural Halls in Westminster. We travelled down crammed into a Bedford van, which you can see at the right. I'm behind the camera. Perhaps the most famous person in this picture is Richard Butterfield (G8AGG/G3VYB), second from left, giving the "V" sign, who went on to co-found Microwave Modules.
G3OUL visit Granada Studios in Quay Street, Manchester
We went on an "outside visit" to Granada TV studios in Quay Street, Manchester. In addition to seeing the set for Coronation Street, we got to have a look at a great deal of the kit which made it all tick. This was taken in the preview theatre. Here's the roll call, as far as I can remember:

Front row (L-R): ?, ?, Dave Yates G3PGQ, Alan Isaccs G3PIY
Second Row: ?, Graham GW3ODI, ? , Keith Matthew G0WYS,Dave Kitson G3MZK, Dave Beaumont
Third Row: ?, Kevin Erents G3SSW/T G8AGY, ?, Frank Hines, Eric Brindley G3PAC
Fourth Row: ?, ?, ?

G3OUL wake up after a night in the van on Hampstead Heath
A different visit to the RSGB exhibition - this in 1963 I think. We drove down in the Bedford van and slept overnight in it, parked on Hampstead Heath. Lef t to Right Alan Issacs G3PIY, in the van Alan Underwood, Pat (surname forgotten), Eric Brindley G3PAC, who's been in the USA for many years, and Dave Kitson G3MZK.
Dave Kitson G3MZK operating G3OUL at Fresher's Conference
Here's Dave Kitson, G3MZK, operating G3OUL at the Fresher's Conference 1961. The AR77 (left) belonged to G3OUL, as did the KW Valiant (right), but the Eddystone was on loan just for the conference. We did not work much - it was impossible to erect any decent sort of antenna.
Eric Brindley G3PAC operating G3OUL at Fresher's Conference
Eric Brindley, G3PAC, tries so raise somebody (anybody !) so that we could put something in the log book.
